Brief History of The Order of the Knights of St Mulumba
The Order of the Knights of St Mulumba Nigeria was founded on June 14, 1953, with the name “The Order of the Knights of Blessed Mulumba”. The New Order was named after one of the martyrs of Uganda, now Saint Matia Kalemba Mulumba. The Order was established on the principles of Catholic Action and modelled after the sacred Order of Catholic Knighthood. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria approved the setting up of the Order in response to the harmful British colonial practices in the 1940s and early 1950s.
